LET’S CLEAR THINGS UP
From eligibility to your first order.
A Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) let you set aside pre-tax money for qualified medical expenses. They are different account types, with different contribution and spending rules. Your benefits administrator can explain the rules for your account.
Qualified customers may use HSA/FSA funds for the eligible portion of medically tailored meals through Truemed. Eligibility depends on medical necessity and clinician review. General wellness alone does not make a meal purchase eligible.
Start your order and complete the Truemed health questionnaire. A licensed clinician reviews your responses to determine medical eligibility. Completing the questionnaire does not guarantee approval.
A Letter of Medical Necessity, or LMN, documents a clinician’s recommendation for a medically necessary intervention. Truemed’s review determines whether you qualify for an LMN for medically tailored meals. Keep your eligibility documents and purchase records.
Your questionnaire must be reviewed before your HSA/FSA card can be used for eligible meal charges. Follow the eligibility status and payment instructions shown in your ordering account.
No. Your eligible options depend on your approved health needs and the meal’s classification. Look for eligibility labels in the ordering experience. A category on this page is not a guarantee that you or every pictured meal qualifies.
Not necessarily. Medically tailored meals can be partially eligible. The ordinary food-cost portion is paid with a personal card; the eligible portion can be paid with HSA/FSA funds when approved. Check the payment breakdown in your order.
The ordering experience uses an HSA/FSA card and a personal card. Your personal card covers non-eligible charges. If you are not approved, meals are charged to your personal card, as explained during setup.
FSA contributions are made with pre-tax pay, so you avoid applicable taxes on that amount. For example, at a combined applicable tax rate of 30%, $100 in eligible costs represents $30 in tax savings. Your actual savings depend on your tax situation and how much of your purchase is eligible. The example is not a discount on the entire meal price.
You can still order CookUnity meals using your personal card. The setup flow explains that meals are charged to your personal card if the clinician does not approve HSA/FSA eligibility.
Check your balance and card details with your benefits administrator. Contact support if you need help understanding the order’s payment status before placing another order. Do not assume a failed benefits charge means your order was canceled.
Truemed can apply an existing valid approval to subsequent orders. A new review may be needed when your approval expires or your health circumstances change. Follow the instructions in your account.
The ordering flow includes an optional weekly-order setting. Review the recurring-order terms, delivery schedule, and change deadlines before enabling it.
The HSA/FSA experience has a separate setup and eligibility review. Contact CookUnity support before changing an existing plan so you understand how your current orders and billing will be affected.
Enter your delivery details in the ordering experience to see available dates and meal options. Review the order’s cutoff, cancellation, and delivery information before confirming your purchase.
