Avara is an entrepreneur and an artist. She has explored life as a writer, filmmaker, painter, counselor, meditation guide, designer, and chef. For more than 20 years she has had a romance with the island of Bali, initially as the manufacturing hub for the line of fine jewelry, handbags and clothing she designed, then as the ideal climate in which to grow her vision of a healthy world through nutritious food. A lifelong foodie, Avara became a plant-based chef after falling in love with the power of living foods, leading her to develop a raw food delivery and catering company in southern Oregon. Having discovered the innovative Green School, Avara moved with her daughter, Sofia, to Bali. There she dreamed up, founded and operated Living Food Lab, a casual vegan cafe on the grounds of the Green School and another at Hubud, Ubud’s collaborative business space. Through Living Food Lab Academy, Avara traveled worldwide teaching, facilitating retreats, and creating pop-up dinners, sharing her enthusiasm for nutrition, her delight in inspiring and connecting with people, and her alchemical wizardry in the kitchen, turning people of all ages on to the power of their food choices. Now Avara is furthering her modest mission in Los Angeles: Conscious food, healthy people, happy planet.

welcome Brooke Alpert M.S., R.D., C.D.N.

We'd like to welcome nationally recognized nutrition expert, author and New Yorker Brooke Alpert to our CookUnity.

Brooke received her Masters of Science at New York University and completed her dietetic training at Mt. Sinai Hospital in affiliation with NYU. She is the founder of B Nutritious, a private nutrition counseling and consulting firm located on the Upper East Side.

She will work with our artisan chefs community creating even healthier, tastier, more balanced and conscious meals for you to enjoy.
