title slickClimate-friendly meals reduce our environmental impact

Climate-friendly meals help conserve natural resources, promote sustainable agriculture and farming practices, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We include more plant-based ingredients and reduce or eliminate meat (beef, pork, lamb, and shellfish) and dairy, which lowers the carbon footprint. Plant-based proteins such as legumes and tofu also produce fewer emissions than animal proteins.

We select sustainable seafood to protect marine ecosystems and support responsible fishing practices. Overfishing and destructive fishing methods can harm marine biodiversity and contribute to climate change. We follow Seafood Watch recommendations to make sure our seafood is environmentally sustainable.

We embrace animal welfare and regenerative farming practices. We use the Five Freedoms of animal well-being as guiding principles: freedom from fear, discomfort, thirst and hunger, pain and suffering, and freedom to express normal behavior. We aim to create a self-sustaining and environmentally friendly farming system that benefits both the ecosystem and people.

title slickOur impact

Our meals are Carbon Neutral Certified by Planet FWD, the leading climate management platform for consumer companies to improve their environmental impact.

To calculate our carbon labels, Planet FWD traces the cradle-to-grave emissions of every last ingredient within a menu item and the packaging it’s served in. These calculations also look at factors specific to our business operations, like the amount of uneaten food that our customers compost or throw away; the miles that our delivery drivers drive; and the impact of our packaging. Our carbon labels are aligned with accounting methodologies as laid out in GHG Protocol and ISO 14040/4.

Our climate-friendly meals have the following emissions footprints, in kg CO2 equivalents per meal:

  • Miso Ramen with Tofu (0.914)
  • Falafel Crusted Artichokes (1.263)
  • Vegan Quinoa and Chickpea Bowl (0.839)
  • Cold Glass Noodle Salad with Summer Vegetables (0.982)
  • Farro Beets and Greens Salad (1.039)
  • Hearty Harvest Salad (0.898)
  • Blackened Fish with Mango Habanero Salsa (1.607)
  • Roasted Salmon and Haricot Verts (1.669)
  • Greek Quinoa Bowl and Grilled Chicken (1.762)
  • Mediterranean Chicken Thighs with Artichokes (2.826).

Steps to get certified

  1. Calculate cradle-to-grave greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with global LCA standards.
  2. Establish a plan for emissions reduction and climate action that's specific, verifiable, and time bound.
  3. Offset unavoidable emissions with carbon credits that meet Planet FWD's criteria for additionality, quantification, permanence, registration, and social and environmental impacts.
  4. Communicate carbon neutrality commitments in keeping with Planet FWD guidelines to support transparency and prevent consumer confusion in carbon labeling.

Offsetting our emissions

Product type x Emissions per unit x Production volume = Carbon Footprint (mt CO2e)

Based on this equation, Planet FWD is able to calculate our carbon footprint and determine the amount of emissions we need to offset to reach carbon neutrality.

In 2023, we offset 124.7 metric tons of CO2e with Tradewater, a high-quality carbon offsetting program. To read more about Tradewater, head here.
